TurboTax Premier 2025 Activation is looping and won't activate on 2nd device

I installed on PC#1 and activated without any issues. On machine#2 I installed and entered my activation code and I got no error message, but when I run TurboTax it asks me to Activate it again (which I did not do). When I log into my Intuit account it now says I have 2 Activations completed although it is only letting me the 1 on PC#1.

Both machines are Windows 11 64Bit Pro edition.

Machine#1 is running 25H2 and machine#2 is running 24H2.

How do I get machine#2 to run using the 2nd activation code it logged ?

Troubleshooting

Unfortunately, we are unable to reset the activation code limit. You have three installations available per license code. You can still install the TurboTax desktop version on a second device.

Make sure your Windows is up to date and that you are using an administrator account on your device.

If issue presists, I would suggest contacting Product Support.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Troubleshooting

I used an Admin account for the install. I just want the install on the 2nd device to be activated since the activation counter increased (1->2) but the activation did not seem to work as system keeps asking for the activation code each time TurboTax is started.  I will call product support to see if they can resolve the issue. Hopefully this is just a minor reset that needs to be done and not a serious issue. I did the install Sunday so perhaps the servers were under maintenance at the time.

Keep me posted—let me know how it goes. Thanks

Troubleshooting

I am having the same issue, however with my first installation.  Also a windows desktop.  I cannot get past it.

Troubleshooting

It appears re-activating (using a second license) and saving a partially complete return has resolved my concern.

Troubleshooting

Did you uninstall and then re-install before trying to re-activate it ?

OR

Did you just try activating again on the original install ?

I was told that once it activates on a machine that you don't have to consume another license to re-install on same machine. I hadn't had a chance yet to test this theory out. I was told to uninstall and reinstall and then try to activate.

Troubleshooting

Mine won't activate on my 1st and only machine.  It says I have it activated on 2 machines (but I only have 1 machine). Each time I try to access the program it wants to "activate" and consume a license. I need to complete my return but don't want to consume all the available licenses.  Why does it not realize that I have installed it on one machine and remember that it has already been activated on that machine?

Troubleshooting

@user17747936795 Please try the following

  • Goto C:\ProgramData\Intuit Canada and check for umid file
  • If umid file exists then open a file "C:\ProgramData\Intuit Canada\tt2025\TTConfig.ini" and enter UseCustomUMID=1 at the end of file
  • Close and save TTConfig.ini
  • Restart the TurboTax application

If you are still not able to resolve this issue, please contact our phone support team for more assistance.

Troubleshooting

I contacted support and they said to uninstall and reinstall. I did and the install and activation worked this time. However I don't know if this used up another license or just re-used the 2nd license as it should have done since it was a 2nd install attempt on the same machine.

How do I tell how many activations I have left ?
