Open TurboTax
Completing individual returns as spouse passed away. Spouses income is on Personal Info Worksheet, and listed at top of T1 General. However does not show on line 7 of ON479! Occurring on both deceased and living spouse.
NO way to override ON479 and manually enter spouses income on line 7
Complete everything through easystep. Confirmed spouses income carries to ON428 Line 12 and Line 21
As per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA):
If you had a spouse or common-law partner who died before December 31, 2025, and who was 69 years of age or older on December 31, 2024, you can claim this credit regardless of your age, if you meet all of the other conditions above. In that situation, do not enter their net income on line 8 of Form ON479. If your spouse or common-law partner died on December 31, 2025, include their net income in the calculation of your family's net income on line 8 of Form ON479.
If you are preparing a return for a resident of Ontario who died in 2025 and who was 69 years of age or older on December 31, 2024, you can claim this credit on their final return if they meet all of the other conditions above. In that situation, do not enter the surviving spouse's or common-law partner's net income on line 8 of Form ON479, unless the person died on December 31, 2025.

Yes but it says 'if you meet all of the other conditions above' and one of the conditions is that your family income is less than $65,000. The way its worded, it sounds like the family income must still be below $65,000 to claim, you just don't include the spouses income which allow a higher claim if the person died before Dec 31, 2025.
So - i agree the spouses income should not be included as he died in July 2025. However, their Family income was much greater than $65,000 so is it still claimable when I have not met 'if you meet all of the other conditions above."
We are sorry for your loss. We suggest in this case that you contact the CRA so that they can advise you if the spouse's income must be entered. If yes, then no, you do not qualify.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
How does your response help with with the fact that turbotax could be wrong and should know how to calculate this? If in deed, under the scenario that someone died, if there is a family total income cap, turbotax should take this into account when determining eligibility. The spouses information is in the return. You've had issues with ON479 for years - not calculating it correctly for other credits. I'm just raising that this could be an error. If i submit as-is, and the credit is not valid, is turbotax going to reimburse me for any interest due to your miscalculation? also for the added frustration of having to deal with a reassessment?
We will look into this further to make sure that the specific calculation takes place. Would you be willing to send us a copy of the return so we can verify it? If yes, we will gladly have them investigate it to see if it is an issue. If you respond with a yes, we will then send you an email with instructions.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
That would be great. Is there a secure upload link?
Yes, we do have a secure upload link, which has been sent to you with instructions.
Thanks. I uploaded the file appropriate Care file along with a separate document summarizing the concern and some additional testing i performed. The amount is calculated correctly when both spouses are alive, and appears to do it properly for the surviving spouse. It was for the deceased spouse that I wasnt sure as the CRA verbiage isnt always clear
Thank you so much—I will have them look at this for you.
