CRA was unable to accept my NETFILE tax return (codes 561)

Hello,

I tried to submit my 2024 Tax return form, but CRA was unable to accept my NETFILE tax return error message keeps popping up. It said to fix the error, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Could you please help me fix this problem?

I assume you can see my account, but if you need any further information, please let me know.

Thanks

Please double check that you have correctly entered the amount of Canada training credit limit for the year. Also make sure you are eligible to claim the Canada Training Credit or the annual accumulation of $250.

You can claim the Canada training credit for eligible tuition and other fees paid for courses you took in 2024 if you meet all of these conditions:

  • you file an Income Tax and Benefit Return for the year
  • you were a resident in Canada throughout the year
  • you were at least 26 years old and less than 66 years old at the end of the year
  • your latest notice of assessment or reassessment for 2023 shows a Canada training credit limit (CTCL) for 2024
  • you paid your tuition or fees to an eligible educational institution in Canada or to certain institutions for an occupational, trade or professional examination
  • your tuition and fees are eligible for the tuition tax credit

@OfeliaRomero CRA NETFILE error 561 typically indicates a mismatch in tuition fee calculations (Schedule 11) or Canada Training Credit (CTC) inputs, often rejecting returns where provincial/territorial credits don't align with federal amounts. To fix it: Verify line 59140 (provincial) matches line 32000 (federal) minus any CTC.

You can claim the Canada training credit for eligible tuition and other fees paid for courses you took in 2025 if you meet all of these conditions:

  • You file an Income Tax and Benefit Return for the year
  • You were a resident in Canada throughout the year
  • You were at least 26 years old and less than 66 years old at the end of the year
  • Your latest notice of assessment or reassessment for 2024 shows a Canada training credit limit (CTCL) for 2025.
  • You paid your tuition or fees to an eligible educational institution in Canada or to certain institutions for an occupational, trade or professional examination
  • Your tuition and fees are eligible for the tuition tax credit
  • Ensure the Canada training credit limit you entered matches your latest notice of assessment. If the error persists, try setting the claim amount to zero to see if the return is accepted.
  • Verify your provincial tuition amount (line 59140) accurately reflects the federal amount (line 32000 or 32001), depending on your province.
