Error Code 606 Invalid License Code with Turbotax Basic 2024

Hello, I recently downloaded Turbotax Basic for 2024 taxes.  I then purchased through Walmart online the license code box for activation.  I picked up the box today as it took Walmart 3 days to acquire it.  It used to be super easy with the CD.  I opened my account, entered the license code 16 digits exactly as indicated and received a 606 error code telling me that the license code was invalid.  I tried three times, same thing.  I closed out of my account, I shut off my laptop, and I tried again.  Same thing.  I then got to thinking maybe I need to update my browser, so I did.  Didn't make a difference, same error code.  Ok, so now I'm thinking I need to contact customer service.  Great , I am going to have to wait another day as customer service only re-opens at 9AM tomorrow.  I have used Turboxtax with the CD for years without issues.  Has anyone else come up with this problem.  Any ideas ?

i am having the same issue, but i bought mine at walmart, no cd cause its an online version only (not desktop), but still have a code and comes up with the same error code 606.

reply with how you made out please.

Just thought I'd add my experiences to the mix as well. Perhaps if there are hundreds of people having the same problem, they'll post something some useful instructions on their Support site.

Anyway, I bought my Premier TurboTax at Staples and am having the same problem. Will call support tomorrow, since they are already closed for the evening.

Since tax year 2020, there is a difference between a License Code (for Desktop) and an Activation Code (for Online). This error code 606 means you are trying to enter a Code for TurboTax Online in a Desktop software (or vice-versa).

We understand, sometimes, this can be confusing but, on the box (or on the retailer website), you have to choose between TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop. They are not the same software and codes from one cannot be used in the other one.

If you bought the wrong version, you can get a refund and then buy the one you need. by using this form to get a refund. Make sure to add a clear photo of your receipt, showing the name of the store, the date, the product bought and the price paid.

Hello,  I solved this by deleting the software and then re-downloading the software.  In my case it had nothing to do with buying the wrong version as I had bought the correct version.

I can't speak for others in this thread, but the box I bought from Staples says "For PC Only Windows 10 or Later" in the bottom right corner of the box. I assume that means I purchased the correct licensing version for its intended use.

I downloaded the install to my computer and installed it. So, I assume I'm still on the right track.

It's when I tried to open it and it requested the license that I ran into problems and received the 606 error.

I can try what another suggested (that is, uninstall and reinstall the software) and try again. If that still doesn't work, I'll call the Support line.

Okay; I can confirm that I downloaded the wrong install executable the first time. I just went to the website and downloaded the exe again and it's a different size from the previous one. I uninstalled what I had installed previously and used the newly downloaded install. The license code worked this time.
