@TurboTaxSusan Hi, can you elaborate what you mean by "enter the date on the INFOWS worksheet in Forms mode?" I am also missing the Residency Changes section when I chose non resident..
Is INFOWS form for desktop paid users? Because I didn't see this function (I am using free version)
Yes, the INFOWS sheet can only be seen in the Download software. As mentioned in your other post the telephone support team will be able to help you with your need in this area.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
Running into this same issue for 2024 taxes. I left Canada mid-year, and I expect to pay taxes for the period that I was a resident of Canada. But....
- Whereas the General T1 form allows for an entry of when "ceased to be a resident of Canada in 2024", I cannot use this version of the form, as my entry of Non-Resident for where I resided on Dec 31, 2024 makes me fill out a Non-Resident T1 form
- But the Non-Resident T1 form doesn't have an entry of when "ceased to be a resident of Canada in 2024"
- I've tried the work-around of entering such a data in the INFOWS (under "If your province or territory of residence changed in 2024, enter the date of your move"...
- ... but the calculations are not treating me as a part-year resident. Line 30000 is filled in with the full-year Basic Personal Tax Credit ($15,705) rather than being pro-rated for the time (partial year) that I was a resident of Canada
Is there a solution or work-around?
@jclarke99 Please try going through the Easy Step Introduction section, and see if it will make the correct entries on the INFOWS for you.
Thank you. I got that to work eventually. But ran into a new problem.
Using Easy Step, at the Screen asking "Where did you live at the end of the year?"
"What province/territory did you live in on December 31, 2024."
I selected "Non-Resident" because I left Canada permanently mid-year. When I do this, the program won't bring up or calculate Provincial income tax. I could have lived in Canada from January 1 to December 30, and the program won't include Provincial income tax.
My only way to get this to work was to falsely enter that I lived in Nova Scotia on Dec. 31, 2024 (where I did live for the first half of the year). Then the provincial forms appear and are calculated.
There's a Federal worksheet that now shows, incorrectly, that I lived in Nova Scotia on Dec. 31 2024. I can't over-ride this. Otherwise, it looks like the T1 form is filled correctly. I'm assuming that the worksheet won't be included when my forms are uploaded to CRA??
You will enter the province you lived in; even if you left Canada before December 31st, you will then enter the date you left and any income you had in and out of Canada for tax year 2024. We recommend that you contact the CRA so that they can advise you on your Canadian status on December 31st, 2024. CRA: 1 (800) 959-8281
As per the CRA: Receiving benefits and credits
It's important that you tell the CRA the date you leave Canada. Generally, as a non-resident, you are not eligible to receive:
If you receive such credits or payments after you leave Canada, contact the CRA immediately.
