Error T3 Box 52 and 53

My T3 had a small amount in box 21 and nothing in 52 or 53. Software wouldnā€™t allow me to file.

i was able to fix the problem by dividing the amount in box 21 and entering one part in box 52 and the other in box 53. That allowed me to Netfile !  ie box21=box52 + box53

Error T3 Box 52 and 53

Our CRA T3 Forms Do Not Have A Box 52 and 53.

TurboTax needs to correct their software STAT it is giving me Errors. I need to submit my taxes.

Also interesting fact from Inuit's Website : The inclusion of box 52/53 were originally included to distinguish the proposed different capital gains rate,s but was later axed by the government.

Error T3 Box 52 and 53

This forum has suggested the following fixes:
1. Put boxes 52+53, 54+55,  and 56+57 into boxes 53, 55, and 57, respectively and put zeros into boxes 52, 54 and 56.  This did not remove the error for me.

2. Round all boxes 52-57 to the nearest dollar, ensuring that boxes 52+54+56<= box 52 and boxes 53+55+57<= box 53.  This did not remove the error for me.

3. Do step 1 and step 2.  This did not remove the error for me.

It turns out that there are two boxes 52's and two boxes 53's.  I put the same amount in both. This allowed me to get past the TurboTax error, but then I got this message from CRA:

Code: #95365 - There is an entry on the Form T936 and/or on the Schedule 3 and one of the following situations applies to your return. Please verify your entries and make any necessary corrections.

1. You reported a capital gain from a T3 slip on line 17600 of Schedule 3. An entry is also required on line 68140 in Chart A of Form T936. Line 68140 cannot be less than line 17600.

2. There is an entry on line 68140. You also have to report a capital gain (or loss) on line 17600. If the total of your capital gains (or losses) from all your T3 slips is zero, your software should generate an entry of "1" on line 17600.

3. There is an entry on line 68140. You must also have an entry on line 68150. If line 68140 minus line 12 in Chart A is zero, your software should generate an entry of "1" on line 68150.

4. There is an entry on line 68150. An entry is also required on line 68140. Line 68140 cannot be less than line 68150.

CRA message #1 refers to my case.  TurboTax will not allow me to enter a value in Schedule 936 Chart A on line 68140.  It sends me off to a form with my T3's which are all entered correctly.  This seems to indicate that this is clearly a TurboTax problem related to not populating line 68140.

Error T3 Box 52 and 53

@JamesLB

I got the same errors.  Basically, the number in box 21 is not transposing into field 68140.  If you look at the pdf of your tax return, hit Ctrl F and search 68140.  If that field is empty, it means the software is still messed up.

Error T3 Box 52 and 53

Its difficult to have ANY confidence in TurboTax this year.  Posts originally said an update was coming Apr 7. Then, over the last few days, a moderator said a fix was coming on or before Apr 14 . I check for a software update EVERYDAY.  Mine is up to date.  I received an email from TurboTax yesterday with a link to the URL below. It says error code 95365 was resolved as of Apr 7.  It says put the value from Box 21 into Box 53 and leave Box 52 blank (i.e. Box 21 and 53 must have the same value). Now I'm searching my PDF return to see if field 68140 has a value. Really? I paid for this product and I'm having to search through a PDF to see if the right numbers are in the right places?  Completely unacceptable. I still want compensation for my time, grief and immense frustration. Moderator... you and your team must do better by us.

Error T3 Box 52 and 53

Just tried all the fixes suggested in this chain including the ones in the link from the email sent yesterday and they still have not fixed the problem. Tried both rounding and ensuring box totals are correct. I still get two errors. This it taking far too long to correct and is extremely frustrating. From the chain this problem has been going on for quite a while with no fix. I am not happy with this. Additionally when the error is identified in Turbo tax it doesn't highlight which T3 is the problem forcing me to look at each on individually and not knowing which one is the problem. I will wait till the update in 2 days but not holding out much hope based on what I see here.

This has not been fixed. I followed the procedure in your email titled:  ā€œUpdate: CRA system errors may be affecting your ability to fileā€. Neither putting the total in box 53 and/or rounding worked. I still have net file errors saying FIX. As mentioned by others, there are two box 53ā€™s. Since mine is foreign capital gains Iā€™m using that box 53.

Don't hold your breath.  Turbotax is already speaking with CRA to see if they can get late penalties waived for people who file late.  That tells me they are not close to a fix.

We are reaching out as some customers are experiencing CRA system errors while trying to file their return. This error is due to a technical issue with the CRA systems calculator and it is affecting all CRA certified tax software in Canada.

We understand this can be frustrating and are advocating for Canadian tax filers by proactively requesting relief of any late-filing penalties if issues persist past April 30.

In the meantime, we are providing daily updates here about resolutions and workarounds for the CRA system errors.

If you are not experiencing any errors, you can disregard this email.

Thank you,
TurboTax Canada Team
