I've been using TurboTax in Canada every year since 2013 and have all the programs installed on my old Windows 10 computer. Since Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 this October and my PC can't upgrade to Windows 11, I'm planning to move to a new computer.
I’d like to know how I can transfer all my TurboTax programs (from 2013 onward) and past return files to the new Windows 11 system. A few questions:
Can I re-download older versions of TurboTax that I purchased in the past?
Are there any tools or steps recommended to help with the transfer?
What's the best way to make sure my past return files will still be accessible?
Any help or guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
You can download older versions of TurboTax Desktop edition here: Where can I download the Desktop edition of TurboTax?
2016: https://intuitglobal.intuit.com/downloads/CanadaTax/2016/dls/TurboTax2016_Bld8004_May18.exe 2017: https://intuitglobal.intuit.com/downloads/CanadaTax/2017/dls/TurboTax2017_Build9008.exe
We no longer have downloads available for 2015 & earlier.
This TurboTax Canada FAQ has information on how to install older versions of TurboTax Desktop: What if I have trouble with my licence code while setting up TurboTax Download?
Please note that we currently only support TurboTax Desktop 2018 & onwards. Older versions may no longer not work.
The best way to keep copies of your tax returns is to save them as PDF files. You can't edit them, but for 2020 and older returns, the CRA won't accept changes by ReFile, and usually won't accept changes at all for returns 10 years old (or older). The CRA also generally only requires you to keep records six years from the end of the last tax year they relate to.
