I was helping my wife using the TurboTax Standard 2024 version when the following bug was encountered.
We are using a 4K monitor and the default text size in the TurboTax is rather small at that resolution and she was having trouble reading it. We used the dialog brought up by the Zoom In speed button on the toolbar to increase the text size several steps. This made things easier to read, however, we later noticed that we could no longer enter data in the address fields at the beginning of the T1 General Form. Some of the fields would just give an alarm chime when we clicked on them and tried to enter data. Others you could enter data but it would not show up until we clicked on another field. The Postal Code field would let us enter data in this way, but what showed up there when we clicked elsewhere was wrong.
We discovered that this problem was now present in all of the returns we were trying to do (mine and my daughters').
We did not immediately connect that increasing the text size had caused this issue since we had gone on to do other things. I eventually determined by accident that if I reduced the text size the data entry worked again. I was able to repeat the issue once I knew what was causing it.
This appears to be a bug in the TurboTax software. The workaround is to reduce the text size if you have increased it and are having data entry issues. However, this should probably be fixed.
We thank you for your feedback.
When you are doing a joint return in TurboTax Desktop you have to enter the address only once, on the first return, you won't be able to modify or enter anything if you are on the second return.
The option to increase text size has no impact with the entries. Unless your text size is too small, then, the software could have an issue detecting your cursor.
Some fields are automatically calculated (in blue) and some are coming from somewhere else in the return (in green). These amounts cannot be changed.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
The returns were not joint. We did our returns separately. Plus the same thing happened with my daughters return being done with the same copy of TurboTax, which was definitely not joint with either of us.
I was able to repeat the results - when the text size was increased a few clicks the data entry problem happened consistently, and when I then reduced the text size the problem went away and I could enter the address data on all three returns.
@jdyoungca We do not have any issue reported, at the moment, about this, but, as it will need a screenshare view with an agent from product support to observe, we suggest you to contact Product support team by phone.
Here is the link where you have the phone number and business hours.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
I did call in when I was still trying to resolve the issue and we tried to screen share, but for whatever reason it did not work. All the person at your end could see was a black screen.
