If I want to transfer my tuition tax credit to my parents. Do I have to file my tax return first so that my parents can claim it on their tax return?

Yes I've gone through all this with Aniqua and she determined it's Inuit's problem and escalated it to them. They, however, did nothing about it. They must have a database of old email addresses that they use to send emails to when you have filed your taxes. It's not the email address you use when you buy the program from them. Luckily for me I still have access to that old email address but I won't forever so it would be nice if they could correct this. It really seems like it should be a simple fix to me and I can't figure out why Inuit ignores it.

@rcrang There have been a few updates to the software, so please make sure your copy of TurboTax is updated. You can start an update manually by clicking Help>Check for Updates on the top grey menu. You can also try reinstalling the software. It will not delete your saved returns.   You can also try going to https://accounts.intuit.com/ and check that the email address on file is the correct one. Login, then select "Sign in & security" from the left side menu to view & change your email address.   If you are still not able to resolve this issue, please contact our phone support team for more assistance.    Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I had a hard drive problem and activated turbotax 3 times, I have to get back in my 2024 files but I can't re-activate. What should I do

@SS007Fly    To override the amount of CCA that you are claiming, click once into the total box in column 20, then select Edit > Forms Override from the top menu. You should now be able to change the amount.   You should be able NETFILE even if you have overridden your CCA claim to make it zero. This is one of the few cases where you can override and still NETFILE your return.

This TurboTax Canada FAQ tells you how to enter Home Buyers' Plan repayment information: How do I enter my Home Buyers' Plan repayment information in TurboTax?   Please note: To make a repayment under the HBP, you have to make contributions to your RRSPs, PRPPs, or SPP in the year the repayment is due or in the first 60 days of the year after. Only those contributions can be used to repay your HBP.

Again, if you are talking about message at the top of the page, that's always going to show on the You Student Profile page if you are using the Free version of TurboTax. It doesn't mean that you have to upgrade, it's just there to let you know that you might have to upgrade.   If you've unchecked the Tuition Transfer box, but it's still asking you to upgrade, please contact our phone support team for more assistance, as they can look at your return with you.
What credit are you trying to claim for this dependant? Are you using TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online?
